WHY ANOTHER SKINCARE BRAND? WHAT'S DIFFERENT?

“We are aware that there are many well-known skincare brands out there, but if you look at the first ingredient on the label, you will notice that the majority of the time it is Aqua (water). Commercial skin creams typically contain, on average, 70% water, 10%–15% oils, with the rest consisting of emulsifiers, preservatives, artificial fragrances, and thickeners—all of which are synthetic and absorbed into our bodies. We wanted to create a skincare brand that is health-driven, as opposed to profit-driven. Our skincare products are made from 100% natural and organic oils that rejuvenate, moisturise, and heal the skin.”

WHERE DID THE PASSION COME FROM?

“It was really after we had children that we became more conscious of what we were putting on our skin and our children’s skin, especially in regard to sun creams, soaps, and shampoos. During my childhood, growing up in the köy (Turkish village), my mother would use natural oils from the seeds and pulp of fruits growing in our garden, such as olive oil, to soothe and clean our young skin. Reflecting on this one evening gave me the idea to start researching the healing effects of natural oils and fats, and we began formulating products to use as a family. We started by making homemade soaps and shampoo bars and then expanded to create various skincare and haircare products made from organic plant oils.”

ONE OF YOUR PRODUCTS CONTAINS BEEF TALLOW, CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE REASONING BEHIND THIS?

“Tallow is an amazing fat! We were a bit grossed out at first when we heard about the idea of using cow fat in a skincare routine, but after researching its natural healing properties, we wanted to explore it further. Tallow is packed with vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with essential fatty acids that are crucial for skin health and deep hydration. It also has excellent anti-aging properties and is ideal for sensitive skin. We’ve combined it with other nourishing oils to create our Tallow Balm, which we use daily as a family. The tallow goes through multiple rendering processes to remove any odor. We love it!”

WHAT'S THE IDEA BEHIND THE BRANDING?

“The name köy, meaning Turkish village, refers to Nida’s childhood memories of using natural produce grown in her village. In the same way, we are returning to traditional and simple skincare methods through the products we offer. We wanted our branding to reflect this simplicity in both its graphic design and neutral, muted color schemes. Additionally, we aimed to create products that are not only effective but also visually appealing, with packaging that people would be proud to display on their bathroom or bedroom shelves.”
